Malleus ear bone
The malleus is the most lateral of the three middle ear bones. The malleus lies adjacent to the tympanic membrane, and transfers the vibrations of the typmanic membrane to the incus, which then vibrates the stapes and transmits the vibrational signal to the oval window. The manubrium is often referred to as the handle of the malleus. The anterior process fits into the petrotympanic fissure, and can be of variable size, and is often found to be fractured or partially resorbed without apparent hearing loss (Anatomy of the temporal bone with surgical implications. 1994 Gulya and Schuknecht).
Arthritis of the knee
Medical illustration showing three stages of arthritis in the knee joint. The image depicts normal anatomy of the knee, including synovium, patella, femur, tibia, and cartilage. Arthritic damage to the knee joint is depicted in early, mid and late stages, with the damage of cartilage and subsequent development of osteophytes (bone spurs).

Gymnast Metacarpal
A gymnast’s hand with broken (fractured) fourth metacarpal repaired with a plate and screws. The illustration shows an orthopedic repair of a fractured metacarpal, and demonstrates the extreme stress that can be tolerated after surgery. A similar surgical repair has been done on the USA Olympiad Paul Hamm. The medical illustration is available for print or digital projects, and would be excellent for educating both public and patients about anatomy and surgical procedures.

Golf Knee ACL injury
A medical illustration showing a golf player swinging a club, with a close up of the knee anatomy and the anterior cruciate ligament. Tiger Woods recently injured his anterior cruciate ligament while running. The image is available for digital or print publication, and would be well suited to orthopedic surgeons or physical therapists who work on ACL repair or those who have clients that are golf fans.

Glottis Vocal Chords Intubation
Cross sectional view of glottis, vocal chords, posterior cartilages, interarytenoid notch, piriform fossa and epiglottis, during intubation with laryngoscope blade on tongue. Illustration previously published in Kovacs and Law (2008) “Airway Management in Emergencies“.

Emergency Airway Intubation
The 3D medical animation above demonstrates the intubation of a patient during an emergency airway procedure.
Cardiac surgery illustration
The medical illustration demonstrates suturing techniques for tricuspid valve bicuspidization and ring annuloplasty. Quality medical illustrations for surgery publications improve the impact and knowledge transfer of research publications.
Black and white line drawings or full color medical illustrations can be developed, in order that style and design are customized for each project to maximize image clarity and impact. Contact the medical illustrator to discuss how your surgery publication can benefit from new medical illustrations.

Orthopaedic surgery

An example of an orthopaedic medical illustration, showing an alternative technique for fixation of the anterior cruciate ligament. Custom medical illustrations like this one, add value to technical publications and improve uptake of new surgical procedures.

Human Skull
Medical Illustration : 1021

Medical illustration of human skull, in oblique view, showing maxilla, teeth, external naris, orbits, zygomatic, frontal and occipital bones, and temporal fossa. Labels can be added to satisfy the needs of your project.
Occipital Nerve and Artery
Full colour medical illustration of the posterior head and neck, showing the occipital nerve and artery, skull, superior trapezius muscle, cervical vertebrae and head outline.
